The heart of relationship for every child

About

ChildPlayWorks has been established with the goal of providing quality training and subsequent services in Child-Centered Play Therapy in New Zealand.

The philosophy of Child-Centered Play Therapy:

  • Children possess an innate capacity to strive towards their growth and maturity.
  • The unique therapeutic relationship built between the child and the therapist facilitates inner emotional growth and develops a child’s positive self-image.
  • Child-Centered Play Therapy is non-directive with this being adult-facilitated but child-led.

Child-Centered Play Therapy is not an eclectic approach and is not technique-driven. Rather, it is an attitude, a philosophy and a way of being with children.

We believe that play is the natural world of a child and is essential for a healthy development. As such, play is the ideal environment in which to meet and communicate with a child who needs help. Here at ChildPlayWorks, we believe in a child’s ability to be constructively self-directing and to direct their own therapeutic process.

The team at ChildPlayWorks has developed a comprehensive training programme which is focused on the Child-Centered Play Therapy approach for working therapeutically with children. Our training programme is part-time and can be completed within 3 years. It consists of 3 consecutive Stages and includes 4 face-to-face workshop intensives as well as online learning.
